Music Charts Records And Trivia: US No.1 Hits

I've been following the weekly Billboard US singles charts for well over three decades now. I used to first get my supply of the US Top 10 charts in a weekly German magazine, Bravo. Later, I used to listen to the weekly charts on radio, on Voice Of America, and all my friends knew that trying to reach me at 5 pm on a Thursday evening was futile, because I'd be glued to my radio jotting down the US Top 10 - the RJ was a man called Ray McDonald, and I was hooked to his weekly countdown. A few years later, I got my hands on a book that had a listing of the US Top 40 weekly charts from the time that they started - with this, I was able to learn about songs from the early years of the charts. I now get updates on the weekly US Billboard Hot 100 charts on Billboard Magazine's website.

Across the world, the music charts that seem to matter most are the local music charts of that country, plus the US and UK music charts. I'm sharing some interesting chart records and trivia involving no.1 hits from the history of the US singles charts. It's fun going through some of these lists and getting nostalgic about songs and music bands that created chart records from a period spanning more than six decades.

Keeping track of the weekly music charts was an interest I developed way back in 1987. It all started because those days, I was far removed from the world of pop music, and I used to feel rather left out in my school. To keep up with things, I started following the weekly US Top 10 and the UK Top 10 hits, and I got very interested in pop and rock music. Following the music charts has gone on to become a lifelong hobby!
